A Sermon By My Preacher

"We are not just born, we are created."

I was in church this Sunday feeling inspired and blessed because the words of my preacher sank deep into my heart. "We are not just born, we are created," my preacher said.

It means that we did not come to this world by chance. We are not mistakes that happened or experiments gone wrong but our coming to this world is by providence.

And what is the purpose of our existence?
My preacher made it clearer to me when he said, "we are just like the teabag in hot water which diffuses in the water, changing its taste."

The comparison with the teabag is to make us understand that we are in this world to influence it positively. Just as the teabag changes the taste of hot water, making it more tasteful and appealing, so also we all have a role to play and that is the purpose of our existence.

A lot of people through out the course of history have come and gone influencing the world positively. Not like there are not countless others who made no impact.

People like Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela, Margaret Thatcher, Martin Luther King Jnr, Bob Marley, Mahatmi Gandhi etc.

These people are the reason why we live comfortably in the world we enjoy today. The world was not always like this, they left us a better world than they met. Now it's our turn to leave a better world for our children and children's children.

My preacher also made another comparison that is worth mentioning. "Some others are like the carrot inserted in hot water, the carrot softens with time."

Unfortunately, the other half of us that fall into this category have lost their sense of purpose and have been carried away by the pleasures of life. They do not feel like they were born for a reason - this world feels like sh*t.

Well the thing is this world ain't sh*t, we made it so. We can still redirect our footsteps & head in one direction - the positive direction. Some people before us had visions of a better world & they did everything within their power to make it so.

There were not always radios 📻 or cars 🚗 or airplanes ✈ or even the internet. There was not always democracy too or drugs to cure infections, I could go on & on. People lived & died to make it all happen.

We cannot all be world leaders, but we could be musicians or lawyers or clerks or law enforcement agents. We can change the world in our little way.

I'm trying to change the world by creating this blog and writing this article to inspire you & to get you on your feet & make you realise you need to start each day with a purpose. So also you too can change the world, by doing your little task diligently & with dignity & with honesty.

That was what Michael Jackson wanted when he sang 'Heal the World'. One man cannot change the world but one man can change himself. Remember, We are not just born but created - created with purpose, created to help make the world a better place.
