I try not to make this a blog about football but unfortunately for me, football happens to be a big part of my life. It is one of the few things that brings boy & men alike together.

Ever since the World Cup started, I haven't really had time to blog much & that's because my schedule for the days have been tweaked! I now have to accommodate six or more hours of football as well as school as well as fixing up my life (but it's fun tho).

Nigeria have been in & out, they had a good run. We were this close to qualifying for the knockout stages. But then Africa as a whole was very disappointing this time out. Not even one of the five teams we presented could make it out of the group stages.

But the fun of the World Cup isn't over in any way. The knock out stages come with lots of drama & trills to look forward to.

But the questions have started pouring out... Now that Salah, Messi & Ronaldo are out of the World Cup, who is the best candidate to win the Balon D'or?

I think at the beginning of the tournament no one would have forsaw each of them going home this early. It just tells you how far the smaller nations have come in trying to catch up with the big boys. They might not have the same caliber of talents, but they aren't going down without a fight.

Russia 2018 has also seen for a very long time the heed to our cries for a technology-assisted refeering system (VAR). This technology might really not be top notch for now but it would need some getting used to. There is always room for improvement & it definitely is a step in the right direction. So also was goal line technology.

With Messi & Ronaldo past their prime & it being very clear that both would be unable to win the World Cup with their national teams, I think it's safe to say this could be finally the end of their dominance of world football.

It's looking like the year where we finally find another wonder kid step up to the billing. A true contender to their throne. Football only gets more interesting by the day doesn't it?
