Healthy Living is Gold

Live in rooms full of light. Avoid heavy food. Be moderate in the drinking of wine. Take massage, baths, exercise, and gymnastics. Fight insomnia with gentle rocking or the sound of running water. Change surroundings and take long journeys. Strictly avoid frightening ideas. Indulge in cheerful conversation and amusements. Listen to music. - A. Cornelius Celsus

Every Monday I like to bring to you a little bit of inspiration. That extra motivation at the start of the week keeps me going & surrounds me with positive energy, I dunno about you. However in addition to that I want to touch on a very important issue which a lot of people seem to take for granted these days.

  • Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. -World Health Organization

Health has always been a part of man's evolution. Let's go back to the stone ages, a man had to be agile to chase after game & escape predators. As such local herbs & sometimes magical spells were used to cure illnesses which just highlights how valuable our health has always been to us.

Fast forward to today's computer age, a lot of people across the globe now work in offices with desks. There is no need to move around much during working hours, there is no need to chase after game or escape predators.

There is no need to walk long distances as there is ever means of transportation necessary to take you to your destination. And there is no need to look after your health, afterall there are doctors to treat every illness in the book.

A lot of people are getting obese, don't even let me get started with the stats. Those who aren't are not eating right. If you aren't booking for sessions in the gym then there's no need exercising. That's the reality we face today. We all are facing some health challenge or the other. Even the fear of a disease is killing more people than the diseases itself.

  • So many people spend their health gaining wealth, and then have to spend their wealth to regain their health. - A.J. Reb Materi
  • The patient should be made to understand that he or she must take charge of his own life. Don’t take your body to the doctor as if he were a repair shop. -Quentin Regestein

How about we take charge of our health once again. Chasing after money only to lose it all to the doctors isn't wise. Health is the true wealth. And you don't need to be lifting kilos to be healthy. On the contrary, staying healthy is pretty basic.

Eat right, drink lots of water, add up fruits & vegs to your diet. Go for a stroll if you can. Walk short distances instead of using the public transport or better still get a bicycle. Worry less, smile more. You can also go for regular check ups, it's never a crime. Reduce your sugar intake. Keep yourself in good shape. It's all pretty basic!
